This app can detect if your phone is close to metal WITHOUT CALIBRATION*. If it isclose enough it will start to vibrate and a red light will come on. It also has a needle and number display which tellsyou how strong the magnetic pull is.
*Swipe left to open settings and try a different axis if detection doesn't work. You can also change the number at witch vibration starts.
